appeared completely “What time Monday?”

“Um. I don’t care. Everyone makes their own hours. But…be

prepared to work late.”

“Make my own hours and prepare to work late?”

“Yes.” Ted glanced back at his employees, distracted. Peaches said, “We have to be back at the Congress Centre,

Mack daddy.”

“Yes.” Ted held up his index finger to indicate one minute as

he put his glasses back on.

Kevin didn’t want to feel helpless or used, but it was a

struggle.

Ted seemed to gather his thoughts. He held up his mobile

device and said, “Call chauffeur.” A moment later he said, “I

need you to drive Kevin to the airport now.”

“Yes, sir. I’ll be out front in five minutes.”

“Thank you…end call.” Ted looked up at Kevin. “You’re all

set.”

Kevin choked up. Why? He had no idea. How could he get

attached to a man as unattainable as Ted Mack? I’m an idiot! Ted obviously realized it. He opened his arms. “Baby.” Kevin went for that hug, nearly knocking Ted off his feet. He

closed his eyes and held tight, rocking him, kissing his neck as if

this was the last time he was going to be able to do it. “Monday,” Ted said as if reaffirming.

Kevin nodded but couldn’t talk because of the lump in his

throat.

The chauffeur peeked into the lounge, as if searching for him. Ted moved away from Kevin’s embrace but held Kevin’s

chin for a moment.

Kevin tugged Ted into a kiss, and held his head still to make

sure Ted returned it. And he did.

When Kevin backed up, Ted appeared surprised. “Kevin, we

live in the same county.”

Kevin still didn’t want to speak for fear of letting out a sob. “This isn’t goodbye.” Ted took a step towards him. “Mack daddy,” Singh said, “We have to get to the Congress

Centre, five minutes ago.”

Ted gave Singh a look of disapproval. “Call another driver.” Kevin began to leave the lounge to retrieve his luggage from

the room. Remembering he didn’t have a key, he said, “I need

the room key.”

“I’ll come with you.”

“Ted!” Peaches said in exasperation.

Ted puffed up his chest and shouted, “They can live without

me for five minutes!”

The tone and volume stunned everyone silent. Including

Kevin.

Lance sat still, not making a move or sound, but surely taking

it all in.

Ted held Kevin’s hand and walked to the elevator with him.

He told the driver to wait.

~

Ted didn’t like how upset Kevin looked. He waited until they

were alone in the elevator to ask. “What can I do?”

Kevin wiped his eyes roughly, as if his state was angering

him.

Taking a man’s virginity and having him become attached.

Ted knew the syndrome well. The same thing had happened to

him. “Kevin…I will try.”

Before the elevator door opened, Kevin lunged at Ted,

slamming him to the elevator wall and kissing him.

Ted grunted at the strength of the hit and unexpected impulse.

But he should know better. This jock acted as if he’d been a

defensive lineman in college, not a quarterback.

The door to the lift opened and Ted peeked at it, knowing

both he and Kevin had to get moving. With their mouths

connected, Ted inched them out of the elevator towards his

room.

Kevin swung Ted up into his arms, still kissing him and

carrying him to the room.
